If you haven't read the series this is probably a great show... But I'm sorry I've watched the 1st 4 episodes and they suck. Basically because of how great the actual series is but ugh. Littlefinger telling Sansa about how the Hound got his scars? Why not the Hound? Can't he act? Alister Thorne going on about eating people? Sam and Jon talking about the ladies? Theon and Tyrion having a converse about nothing... Why skip important parts of the book to add scenes that never happened? Viserys is totally unimportant he doesn't need a scene where he talks about Dragons in a tub... Ugh..

I see it similarly, Sean. It may be an interesting series, but it's not great on its own terms. It lacks a lot of the subtlety, atmosphere and good sense of the book. I couldn't very well defend it from underwhelmed reactions.

I think the TV show is fantastic so far and, if the books are any indication, it will only get better from here. Some of my favorite scenes have been the original scenes that didn't come straight from the book, especially in the last two episodes.

It's a different medium they have to make necessary changes. I love the books, I'm really liking the TV series. Eh, to each their own.

What important scenes are being left out? Why can't Tyrion and Theon have a scene telling the audience who Theon is? Why can't Thorne talk about a rough winter beyond the wall? Why can't Jon and Sam act like normal boys? Why can't Littlefinger get in closer with Sansa by telling her a secret? Why can't Viserys impress a young woman with his talk of dragons in the tub?

Go watch True Blood or Legend of the Seeker and come back and complain Game of Thrones isn't EXACTLY like the book. You can't handle talk of women, scenes of nudity, or moments that touch on harsh things like cannibalism... Why do I feel like I'm talking to a child?

Loved the books, am loving the show. Could have done without that bathtub scene, but mostly the changes have ranged from acceptable to necessary IMO.

Dinklage rules. Kid playing Joffrey's perfect. And I love the guy they got for Syrio!

I think the important thing to remember is that there is a ton of information to conveyed in a small span of time - hence the Viserys dragon scene, Carcetti telling Sansa about the hound, etc.

As for Sam and Jon, it gives us insight to Jon not wanting to father a bastard.

I actually like the added scenes, makes me feel like we get to see Martin's world from a slightly different angle.
